3.23 Landing Zone Chart Update Notes: 06/26/24

Updated the following locations:

All MAJOR landing zones: Area 18, Lorville, Microtech, Orison

Updated the Terminal Area Charts, Landing Zone Charts, and Instrument Approach Procedures with headings that are correct for the compass as it exists in the 3.23 patch. What this means is the charts are still oriented to OM1 as north, but the headings are correct for the ship’s compass, which is oriented to OM3. This looks weird, but is intended as a compromise to get correct headings on the charts without having to completely re-do them. I’m still hoping that a future patch will return to OM1 as north, in which case I can simply revert to the original charts.

In summary, the charts are still oriented to OM1, but the headings are correct for the ship compass.

What you’ll see on the app pages for these landing zones is the new charts at the beginning of the page, and as you scroll down you’ll eventually get to a moving banner that says “do not use below this line.” Below that line is the old charts. I’ve arranged the pages this way because if and when OM1 returns to being north, I can simply delete the 3.23 versions from the pages instead of having to delete and re-upload everything.

Many of the instrument approaches changed. Since any distance more than 1000km now displays as 1mm, 1.1mm, etc., anything using waypoints more than 1000km away have been either altered or temporarily removed. Where possible new waypoints are used, such as the new distribution centers.

Added a new marker at the beginning of all instrument approach plates and terminal area charts: “QTE,” or “Quantum Travel Exit.” This mark on the chart corresponds to where your ship comes out of quantum travel. Or pretty close, anyway.

Lorville- QBA-Y is unusable this patch.

Orison- QBA-X is unusable this patch.

I’ll begin working through the other landing zones shortly.

Reminders

Compass-The ship compass orients to OM3 for north, instead of OM1. For the time being the new charts are oriented to OM1 as north, so the compass headings will not match the charts. I believe CIG will change the compass back at some point but have no idea when or if it will actually happen. Charts are being re-worked and released as they are completed.

Altimeter-The altimeter now displays as a number on the lower right of the HUD, and is now in the kilometer scale, meaning if you’re above 1000 meters it will show as 1.00km, 2.73km, 4.51km, etc. Due to this change, altitudes on old charts will have to be converted by the user by reading, for example, 3650 meters as 3.65km. Altitudes will also not be precise unless they happen to be less than 1km.

Due to these changes I haven’t decided whether or not to produce instrument approaches to the distribution centers. I want to know CIG’s intentions regarding the compass and altimeter before investing the time, so for now those items are on hold.

Future Projects

I am working on video tutorials, but master modes, the altimeter and especially the compass changes have put those on hold. I’ll have to re-do work already completed so it will be awhile before any of that gets done.
